Mapping Electronic Drums Midi to Steam Game Controls for Mac to Play Rhythm Quest
I’ve been wanting to use my electronic drums to play rhythm games, and I’ve found a way to do it, and here are the steps!
Things you will need:
Electronic drums (I’m using roland v-drums)
Midi to USB adapter (https://s.shopee.sg/10o4QWio7f)
USB to USB-C adapter for Macbook Pro
First start by downloading and installing midiStroke and Midi Monitor from the following links
Connect up your drums to your computer with the Midi to USB Adapter and mini phono cable from your Mac.
Start up Midi Monitor and click the filter to expand it and uncheck all except the voice message.
Hit the drum pad to find out the note on channel and number.
Enter the midi number and channel and the corresponding keystroke you wish to use. For Rhythm Quest, I set it to the left tom to ‘q’ and the right top to ‘p’.
Make sure that in your system settings, you have given permission to midiStroke accessibility permissions under System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Accessibility in order for it to generate keystrokes.
Start up rhythm quest and play with drums!
